Restructure Undebug.org

Written on July 12, 2008 by CincauHangus

I’m looking for better ways to restructure my Undebug.org blog without resorting to a clean WordPress Installation and recreating it’s categories, tags, and permalink structure. I’ve done the same thing with my old personal blog but I didn’t import any of the old posts to the new one that you’re currently seeing now.

What I want to do now is:

  • Remove all posts posted before 2008, and unrelated pages
  • Remove all unrelated categories & tags
  • Create new categories and categorise newer posts accordingly
  • I may keep the current permalink structure intact (currently it’s ‘%category%/%postname%’ )

So currently I think I got down a few problems that I may encounter:

  • Permalink restructuring problems
  • 404 Errors
  • Database corruption (If i result to doing it manually through the database)

Are there any plugin(s) that can make this task easier for me? I’m much more worried about database corruption and 404 errors. (maybe Google Sitemap can fix the 404s?)

If I’m going to do this manually, I think I may take 2-3 days of man hours doing it. But class is starting on Tuesday. :(

I’m a categoric-freak. Need to put things into order everytime it goes ugly. *same reason why I have a new blog now. :P *

I feel your headache.. least you have everything backed up… i dunno maybe you can try the SEO Pack.. either that or just change the permalinks once you have installed everything again a fresh.

i think.. totally different situation leh..i want to delete a whole chunk of old posts, then i wana edit the categories, which will lead to new permalinks to each post.. then my SERP will be different edi. which is what i’m afraid of. coz now hitting 600-800 unique visits a day.. I don’t wanna pull it down drastically. =(

to change the permalink is so easy dude.
make sure there’s .htaccess in your public_html folder and CHMOD it to 777 so it will rewrite by itself.

for the database things, i suggest you to do it manually inside the WP itself. Or if you want to restart again, you can delete the old database and create new one to merge to existing mySql admin i think.

It wont effecting your SERP if you know some line of php string for that. huhu. but importing old post to new blog doesnt mean anything. Google wont index the old post that your imported.

syuxx: i was thinking to restart a new one, with some of the posts still in it. what i’m worried about is the Google index.

I guess the permalink I don’t have to worry that much, since WordPress can handle it well. =p
