I recently had access to a Virtual Private/Dedicated Server and have been wondering what I can do with it. To make things short, almost everything that I can do with my computer, I could also do it on the VPS. Here are some of the things you could do with a VPS/VDS:

1. Run a Game Server (dedicated game server)
2. Run a Webserver (host websites/scripts)
3. Run a database server (to compliment the webserver)
4. Run an online radio/video streaming server
5. Create a virtual private network (VPN, for proxying your internet connection)
6. Run a VOIP server (make calls online, free?)
7. Run a IRC server (mIRC days huh?)
8. Run a FTP server (host and transfer files between people)
9. Run a torrent tracker server or just download torrents with the VPS/VDS
10. Host a cloud computing software

Here’s what you can’t do with a VPS/VDS:

1. Can’t use it as a very expensive paperweight (however your physical server can)
