10 Things You Can Do With A VPS/VDS
Written on June 1, 2009 by CincauHangus
I recently had access to a Virtual Private/Dedicated Server and have been wondering what I can do with it. To make things short, almost everything that I can do with my computer, I could also do it on the VPS. Here are some of the things you could do with a VPS/VDS:
- Run a Game Server (dedicated game server)
- Run a Webserver (host websites/scripts)
- Run a database server (to compliment the webserver)
- Run an online radio/video streaming server
- Create a virtual private network (VPN, for proxying your internet connection)
- Run a VOIP server (make calls online, free?)
- Run a IRC server (mIRC days huh?)
- Run a FTP server (host and transfer files between people)
- Run a torrent tracker server or just download torrents with the VPS/VDS
- Host a cloud computing software
Here’s what you can’t do with a VPS/VDS:
- Can’t use it as a very expensive paperweight (however your physical server can)
That’s all that I can think of. Any more? Leave a comment!
