Sliced and Diced

Day 1
The current number was 12xx while my number was 1001. We thought they given us the wrong number, but it seems it was the right one. I was after all patient #1 on that day. It was already 12AM.
There was a ticker running saying the current number, what zone this area was and the estimated time of the queue.
4 Hours.
That was how long I had to wait before I was attended to. We waited, asked around whether I can get treatment asap, but was eventually told to wait for my number.
Who would imagine a 4 hour queue at the hospital at 12AM in the morning. Maybe I never waited so long to be attended before.
My dad said if it’s just stitched, we can just go to a clinic and get it sorted out. So we left Selayang Hospital and went to a 24 hour clinic near by my house. The doctor examined, then told us that the wound on my wrist was too deep and a tendon might have ruptured. He adviced us to go to a hospital because this wound needed a surgery.
He gave me a shot of painkillers in my left cheek. The left cheek of my ass.
I felt pain. I dismissed it as normal because it has been a while since I was shot in the ass. My sis told me to rub it hard and the pain should go away.
It didn’t, for the next 3 days.
Went home to get a change of shorts and sent out a tweet. Since I lost my phone, I tried to get someone’s phone number. Mae was so happened to be online at the time so I got her number and then went to Tawakal Hospital with my dad and younger sis.
At the hospital I was examined again by the A&E doctor. She determined that the bone might have chipped as well with the ruptured tendon. Then I had an X-ray which didn’t show any serious injuries. Then the wounds were cleaned again and I had a few pills to be taken.
My superficial wounds (on the elbow) were not stitched up then though. They left it to the surgeon the next day.
I check-in, and got myself a bed to sleep on for the next few days. My surgery is scheduled the next day. Then finally when I had all the time to myself, I called up a few friends to sort things out but most were sleeping except for Mae. Then I canceled my maxis simcard.
Woke up around 7.30AM. Called JJ and Earl and told them what happened. Next thing I know everyone knows I’m in the hospital thanks to JJ informing my classmates and Earl posted a message on my Facebook profile. My tweet was also RTed.
I had another jab on my right cheek by a young nurse. Well a few young nurses. Well, not exactly. An intern was trying to turn me over on my injured hand while trying to jab my ass. The senior – cute – told her off and took over. Hmmm. For some reason it didn’t hurt like the left cheek one.
The touch of cute nurses = no pain.
While waiting for my surgery, I made friends with my wardmate, bedmate, or what ever you call it lah. He allowed me to use his iPod Touch to surf. Checked my twitter and facebook and I got all kinds of weird and funny responses. I do wonder why people are much more concerned about my camera than me.
Hello, I’m here.
Surgery at 12PM+. While waiting in the waiting area, the anesthesiologist asked me whether I’d like to get a local or a general anesthetic. Thought about it, and I took GA, because I don’t want to be watching as they performed the surgery. Come to think of it, maybe I should, on the other hand I don’t know what to expect.
I was then moved to the operating room. Was laid out in a cross, both arms spread out wide. On my right hand I had the branula injected into me. I asked my surgeon to snap a few photos of my wounds because I didn’t get to see them properly earlier. The anesthesiologist flipped out his iPhone and snapped a few photos.
The nurses there injected in what looked like saline solution and some white liquid, which I assume was the anesthetic. Lights out in 10 seconds.
I woke up around 2PM in the waiting ward, semi-conscious. In and out of consciousness as the anesthetic starts to wear off. My parents were waiting for me when I reach back to my ward. Felt painful, unable to move my hand, I was in and out of sleep till about 5PM. Earl dropped by around 4PM after work.
I started to walk, did some toilet business, walked around ward and hospital (it isn’t that big). Toilet with one hand while wearing a disposable underwear and an operating gown is bloody hard.
JJ, JY, Grace, Stephanie, Chung Lern, David, Jen, Joshua, Andrew and my best friend, PM came to visit. I was showered with food, food and more food. Hahaha. Jason called, told me about our Miri trip and what might have possibly caused this luck that we had right when we came back.
Hospital food was so-so but McD nuggets was yummy.
PM stayed till 1030, helping me with a food and tucking me in.
Day 2
Woke up in pain, uncomfortable with new sleeping position. Had bit of breakfast but thanks to the branula I had in my right hand, the mood wasn’t there. Chat and shared my twitter & fb comments with my wardmate.
Been waiting for updates from surgeon since surgery.
Jac came for a visit, then parents came. They made quite a commotion because we were about to be charged an extra day although I’m able to be discharged today. Waiting for check-out, sleep on and off. Felt very tiring just trying to move around, and ended up sleeping most of the time.
Mom went to temple – following Jason’s advice, Jac went home while dad waiting for billing procedures to complete.
It was a rainy day. Home at 4.
Day 3
Sticky and smelly. Still haven’t had a bath since Day 0. Went to a salon and got my hair a wash and cut. Took a shower and the perfume from day 0 was still present.
My palm was swollen like a balloon.
Day 5
Made police report
Day 10
Removed stitches & elbow bandage. I think because the wrist was bruised in some areas, it hurt when it was rebandaged. I was light headed when the doctor was removing the stitches and nearly passed out. 20 stitches were removed, 10 for each wound.
Went home with a migraine, couldn’t sleep with the wrist pain which began to swell again like a light bulb. Ended up removing and shifting it a little.
Day 16
Finally removed wrist bandage. Physio begins.
